Who We Are

At Little Big Preschool, TK & Kindergarten we provide affordable and quality childcare for children aged 2-6. Our personalized lessons and activities foster physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development. Together with families, we create a safe and enjoyable learning environment where every child thrives.

Our Mission

Little Big Preschool, TK & Kindergarten in Aliso Viejo in Orange County, CA seeks to provide affordable and quality childcare for children between the ages of 2-6. We are a school that cares about children’s physical, cognitive, and social emotional development. The teachers of this program strive to learn about the interests of the children and we base our lessons and activities around that. We also aim to get to know each family on a personal level so that we can better meet the needs of their children.

At Little Big, we are passionate about providing a safe, developmentally appropriate, and fun learning environment for all children. We believe that every child is capable of learning and we aim to help each child be the best they can be academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.

Susan Dunn

Administrator

A graduate with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration (BBA) from NUS, Singapore, Susan is passionate about families. This passion is what led her to found Little Big Pre-school. She believes that school should be an extension of the home and be a support to parents so that together they may raise up the next generation of problem solvers and world changers in a wholesome and encouraging environment. Susan is married to Derek Dunn and they have 3 beautiful children.

Sarah Holifield

Director

Sarah is the director and main teacher of Little Big. She has been working with kids of all ages for the last 13 years. She is a graduate of California State University Fullerton where she earned her degree in child development and dance. She also received her teaching credential in Physical Education for grades K-12 with an emphasis in Dance. Sarah has a passion for teaching kids and helping them develop academically, physically, socially, and emotionally in a positive environment where kids are excited to learn and enjoy coming to class each day.

Arianna Toress

Office Director

Arianna is the Office Manager of City Harvest Church and Little Big Pre-School. She is the eldest of 6 siblings and was born and raised in Moreno Valley, CA. She is a graduate of the University of California, Irvine with two Bachelor's degrees in Psychology & Social Behavior, and Public Health Policy. Arianna has a passion for her community and especially families. She believes a healthy community begins with a healthy family, especially children.

Frequently Asked Question

What is the curriculum like at your school?

Our focus is to get each child kindergarten ready. So we go through the alphabet and focus on letter recognition, letter sounds and then work them up to being able to read as we practice sight words. We get them familiar with their numbers and work them up to being able to count to 100. We plan our activities to help them develop their social-emotional skills so that they can work together with their peers and learn to communicate effectively. Each day we take time to work on their physical development whether it be developing their fine motor skills such as the proper way to hold a pencil or their gross motor skills such as running, kicking and throwing. We are not a worksheet-based school; we are a Reggio Emilio based programs. The kids learn by engaging in activities that have proven to be more effective in getting the kids to retain what they are learning.

How big are your class sizes?

We believe that smaller class sizes give the child more individualized attention, so we do not go above 10 kids for every teacher. Our school has a max capacity of 15 kids. So when we are at full capacity we will have 2 teachers with 15 kids.

How do you handle discipline?

At Little Big, we always try to redirect their child first and have a discussion with them to try to see where the problem lies. We also work together with the parent by having open communication to discuss the behavior happening at school and come up with the best plan of action together. At Little Big we don’t have “time outs” instead we have “Break times” where the student is asked to take a break and take a moment to think about their actions and how they can make a different choice.

When can I enroll my child? Does my child have to be potty trained?

Little Big is a year-round preschool, so you can enroll your child anytime we have space available. If we are at full capacity, your child will be placed on our waitlist and we’ll notify you as soon as a spot opens.

Children do not have to be fully potty trained before enrolling. We work alongside parents to help children with this important milestone, supporting them through the process in a patient and encouraging way.
